Our service is broken down into four main schemes, largely based around the biological ages of our children and young people, but we do recognise that developmentally, each of them may take a while longer to move on to the next age group. Where this is the case, we will assess each child during each scheme and only when we and their families feel they are ready, we will move them up to the next age group.
All schemes operate between the hours of 10am and 3pm (Monday - Friday) and currently cost only £15 per session
5 - 10 Years....
Our activities in this Scheme are based largely around having fun, building the foundations of relationships with peers and staff, and burning off some of that endless energy our younger children have, with a tiny bit of 'developing life skills' thrown in .
These activities are offered in a more structured way and our team provide a more intensive level of support where needed or until the child feels comfortable doing things for themselves. Some examples of the activities on offer to our younger children are:
Messy Play; Swimming; Baking; Arts & Crafts, outdoor Play Centres, the Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre and Safari Parks/Zoos but we are always open to suggestions.
10 - 15 Years....
By the time our children reach this age group, they have often developed firm opinions on the activities we offer. Therefore, we take on board their views and all activities are offered as a 'free-choice', meaning they are available but only if they want to take part, and are delivered with more of a focus on developing life skills. So in this Scheme, we may have numerous activities running at the same time and is dependent on the interests of the group of children with us. For example, the children who enjoy baking or cooking may get together and make lunch or a snack for the whole group, while others may have time to chill out or enjoy another activity.
15 - 18 Years....
By the time our young people are reaching this stage of their lives, they and their families are thinking about transitioning into adult life. While we try to keep our choice of activities fun and engaging, there is a much stronger link to developing like skills.
The same activities remain on offer but, they are likely to be a little more complicated, or have additional steps which must be undertaken to complete tasks which we find provide them with more of a challenge. For the past 5 years or so, our
15-18 group have hosted an 'Afternoon Tea' for their parents and friends during the Summer Scheme. Recent trips have included visiting Dundee Ice Arena to meet the Dundee Stars Ice Hockey Team, 10 Pin Bowling and visits to the cinema to see the most recent movies.
1-2-1 Scheme.....
Our 1-2-1 scheme takes children & young people aged 5 - 18 years with complex needs due to profound and multiple disabilities. In this scheme, we have a large emphasis on sensory activities along with trips to a hydrotherapy pool and visits to parks, zoos and regular beach walks.
